The Kossuth County Conservation Board exists to promote and foster the conservation of wildlife and natural resources through education, land stewardship, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Founded in 1962, the Kossuth County Conservation Board (KCCB) is headquartered at Smith Lake Park north of Algona on Highway 169. The Smith Lake campground and recreation area is only one of several campgrounds, parks, and wildlife areas managed and maintained by the KCCB. The KCCB also provides direct assistance to landowners with habitat establishment such as prairie seeding, tree plantings, wildlife food plot plantings, etc .. The KCCB's Environmental Education program promotes outdoor learning and environmental awareness through a wide variety of programs. Hundreds of fun and educational programs and outdoor adventures are provided to Kossuth County students, adults, families, and civic organizations every year - all in the hope that education will lead to a better tomorrow.
