The County Emergency Management Agency is provided for in Iowa Code Chapter 29C. The County Emergency Management Agency is governed by the Kossuth County Emergency Management Commission comprised of one (1) member from each incorporated jurisdiction, one (1) member of the County Board of Supervisors, County Sheriff and County Auditor.
The duties of the Kossuth County Emergency Management Agency includes assisting the public with emergency operations. The coordinator is in charge of working with departments, emergency response agencies, governmental bodies and private organizations to develop plans and capabilities for all response agencies and local jurisdictions, to prepare to respond to potential hazards that are a serious threat to our county or jurisdictions.
The coordinator will make every effort to protect lives and property through the preparation and conduct of exercises that test the County Emergency Operations Plan in a variety of scenarios. The Coordinator will assist citizens in the area to prepare for, mitigate, respond and recover from, and eliminate or reduce the effects of natural, civil, and technological emergencies and disasters. The Emergency Management Agency is responsible for developing programs for emergency operations to recover from disaster and emergency situations, whether natural or man· made. The coordinator also coordinates and oversees the enhanced 911 system in the County as well as being an integral part of the Homeland Security program in Iowa.
